Future Tense. Oil and enamel on canvas. 48 by 72 inches.

The house is in chaos, and so is my mind. After twelve years in Pakistan, we are moving back to Australia. Blocks of orange, yellow and pink paint represent excitement, anxiety and fear of the unknown. Blue soothes, a reminder that God, our guides and our ancestors will accompany us on this journey. I am Australian. I’m going home. The laugh of kookaburras, the hum of familiar insects, stars twinkling in the night sky, the smell of gum leaves: it’s all calling me. This painting has windows which I want to look through, but I can’t. They belong to the future; I have to trust that they will be as magical as the past has been. Perhaps even more.
